Could Lewis Hamilton leave Mercedes? To join Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton could make yet another surprise move to Ferrari, says Simon Lazenby After just one race at the 2023 Bahrain F1 Grand Prix, Hamilton’s ambitions for a record eighth victory look dim.
His contract expires at the end of this season, and unless Mercedes prove they can’t deliver a winning car soon, Hamilton could do the unthinkable and leave for a rival team. “I wouldn’t rule it out,” F1 commentator Lazenby told the Daily Express.
“If anyone deserves the best car against Max Verstappen, it’s Lewis Hamilton. “He won’t go to Red Bull until Max comes. This is what every driver wants to drive in a Ferrari. “Lewis also said he wants to drive a Ferrari. If a Ferrari is more comfortable than a Mercedes, I won’t rule it out.”
Ferrari are currently trying to challenge the dominance of Red Bull and Verstappen, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz as drivers. Hamilton has always said he will sign a new contract with Mercedes until he is 40.
He insisted on competing in the race’s inaugural weekend in 2023 until he could try for another championship, which earned him the most money. But ahead of the F1 Grand Prix in Bahrain, Hamilton said the Mercedes W14 concept was not competitive.
Team principal Toto Wolff admitted the concept needed to be changed, saying of Hamilton’s future: “We’re all coming together and I don’t think another bad start is going to change that.”
