No doubt that Mercedes is losing its competition mainly due to its not-so-surprising upgrades, every time it upgrades its car the competitors also upgrade their car which makes them feel slow…
Mercedes introduced new upgrades from time to time and fans were mad over the upgrades but when it comes to the race pace they did fall back, especially the straight-line speed. Mercedes introduced the side pods after not considering the side pods for nearly a year.
The teams using Mercedes Power Unit seem to be ahead in the straight line speed compared to Mercedes. For example, take Williams they have massive straight-line speed and in the defense mode, they can quite compete with RedBull…
McLaren also seemed to be pulling off in terms of straight-line speed which we saw in the battle between Lewis and Lando after the safety car start at the British GP, where Lando was on the hard compound tyres and Lewis was on the soft compound tyres but still, he couldn’t pass him in the straight. Well, he was fast in the corners but straight-line speed makes a huge difference.
Toto Wolff mentioned that Mercedes will bring some major upgrades after the summer break which again makes the fans wonder if Mercedes can come back stronger and match the pace of RedBull, but even if they come back RedBull is way ahead in both the drivers and constructors championship, Mercedes only can do is to minimize the damage from the bottom opponents…
Mercedes really need to work on the aero part of the car which will improve the straight-line speed as it seems that the power unit is not the problem.
